What is Strange Animals?

Strange Animals is a content platform dedicated to the most bizarre, fascinating, and incredible creatures on Earth. From deep-sea oddities that glow in the dark to ancient extinct giants that once ruled entire continents, the platform delivers expert-written articles that make complex biology accessible and genuinely captivating for a broad audience.

The site is structured around six major animal categories: mammals, birds, reptiles, marine life, insects, and extinct species, with ten focused sub-topics in each. Every article is written by researchers and wildlife enthusiasts, covering anatomy, behaviour, habitat, conservation status, and the genuinely strange adaptations that make each species remarkable.

Beyond articles, Strange Animals includes a suite of interactive tools designed to maximise engagement and dwell time: an animal quiz, species identifier, size comparison tool, interactive world map, random animal generator, and a searchable image gallery. The platform is built for viral reach in the wildlife niche, optimised for search engines and social sharing, with an AdSense-driven revenue model.

How it's built

Strange Animals runs on a Go/Gin REST API backend with PostgreSQL and Redis, a Kalenuxer-built static frontend, and a full admin panel. Deployed on the file-converter-free.com server with isolated containers for the database, cache, and API. Content is managed through the admin CMS, with each article tied to a topic and sub-topic that determines its URL structure and internal linking.

API Go + Gin framework + GORM ORM + JWT authentication
Database PostgreSQL (port 5435) with full-text search, topic/subtopic taxonomy

Covers African wildlife with proper depth

So refreshing to see African species covered with the same level of detail as exotic species from other continents. The pangolin and aardvark articles are exceptional.

Incredible depth on every species

Spent an entire afternoon reading about mantis shrimps and deep-sea creatures. The science is explained in a way that makes you want to keep reading. This site is a hidden gem.

Rare combination of accuracy and readability

Most wildlife content either oversimplifies or buries the interesting facts in jargon. Strange Animals gets the balance exactly right. The mimic octopus article is outstanding.

Shares this with my whole family

My 10-year-old is now obsessed with axolotls because of an article on this site. The writing works for both kids and adults which is very hard to achieve.

The tardigrade article alone was worth it

I went down a five-hour rabbit hole after reading the tardigrade deep-dive. The level of detail is exceptional and every claim is backed by research citations. Absolutely addictive.

Scientifically accurate, beautifully written. Strange Animals stands out because it cites sources and goes beyond the usual surface-level facts you find on other sites.
